Digital Planner 101: how to use your digital planner for the iPad

What have I been talking about?

Okay okay, I admit it. I might have got a little ahead of myself these last few weeks. I’ve been busy telling you how amazing the Digital Planners but I haven't actually mentioned exactly what they are yet… oops!

So, What is a digital planner?

A Digital Planner is almost identical to the traditional paper planners that you buy from a stationery shop BUT instead of being paper, they’re on your iPad (or preferred choice of a tablet) instead!

Let me clarify this a little more. I’m not talking about then ‘notes’ app on your iPad or Google calendar - Digital Planners are basically a PDF version of an actual planner. These PDF documents can then be imported into your favorite note-taking app meaning you can bring your planner with you wherever you go! They even mimic the look and feel of a traditional planner. Crazy right?!

The beginning of a beautiful Digital Planning journey

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that if you’ve got this far down the blog then you’re on board with the idea of a Digital Planner. Yay - go you! I totally get it if you still have some questions and I’m guessing that the first one is ‘what do I need to get started?’. So, let me walk you through exactly how to get started on your Digital Planning journey.

Let’s start with the things that you’ll need:

  1. Tablet + stylus

One of the best things about Digital Planners is that they are compatible with both iPads and tablets, so the choice is yours! Personally, I use an iPad Pro 10.5” because I love how smooth and agile the touch screen is but honestly, you can go with whatever iPad or tablet you can get your hands on.

For the sake of precision and your sanity, I highly recommend using a stylus. There’s no surprise that I use an Apple stylus with my iPad, but again, there’s no right or wrong answer for what to use with your tablet.

  2. Note-taking app

The planners that are available in The Pink Ink store, like all Digital Planners, are PDF templates which means that you’ll need to upload them to a note-taking app. Don’t panic here, it’s not as technical as it sounds! When you purchase a Planner from The Pink Ink®, you’ll also receive an instructional guide that will help you with all of this. So instead of repeating myself, I’ll talk you through the 4 main digital planning ipad pro apps to choose from.

Each of these 4 options has their own strengths and weaknesses, but other than doing a little research into which is best for you (which you’re actually doing right now), you’ll want to try them out for yourself to see which you prefer.

So, let’s get started on a little introduction to each apps for digital planning ipad pro:
