3 Reasons You Need To Pick a Digital Planner Niche

Are you dying to create a digital planner but aren’t sure how to pick your niche, or if you even need one? There is a lot riding on the type of planner you create, it’s good that you are thinking about it - but try not to overthink it.

When deciding on the type of digital planner that you want to create, think first about the problem you want to solve. Sometimes thinking about the word ‘niche’ can get overwhelming, so keep it simple.

You may even be going back and forth on if you need to niche down in the first place. I’m here to tell you, you do! Digital planners are not a rare item anymore, brands are popping up left, right, and center with their take on a digital planner. This shouldn’t deter you, it should motivate you to create your own individualized planner.

Continue reading to learn my top 3 reasons why picking a niche is vital when creating a digital planner.

  1. Helps you have a purpose and stay focused on your mission.

When creating your digital planner, it’s easy to get lost in the design work and forget what you are doing. I may have been there a few times myself….however, I find that determining your niche beforehand gives you great design guidance and keeps you on track.

Knowing exactly the problem your planner is going to fix means you know your target audience and can design it with them in mind. You can also poll your audience to find out more details on what they would be looking for in a digital planner.

2. A niche helps coin your aesthetic and branding.

When creating your digital planner, the part that you are probably obsessing over is the branding and design, right? There are so many options and possibilities of what it could be, how could anyone choose?

When picking a niche, it narrows down your design options and helps you visualize your brand aesthetic easily. You can look at a smaller pool of competitors and see how you want to stand out from the crowd.

This also sets you up for future planner creation, once you have your branding you can hit the ground running on new projects easily. Your next one may have some slight alterations but generally, you want it to have the same aesthetic to create a cohesive feel.

3. Showcases your expertise.

When you niche down to a certain idea, like travel planners or teacher planners, you target your audience so specifically that it sets you up as the authority. It puts the idea out there that you must have a vast knowledge of the subject to be creating a way to organize it. After two years I decided to specialize in entrepreneur and mom planners. This helped put me on the map in these industries as an expert which eventually led to me being seen as an authority in the digital product business as well.
