3 Ways to Uncover your Perfect Digital Planner Idea

Do you love planners? Do you also love digital products? Have you been dreaming about combining the two but you’re not sure where to start?

Well, the good news is that planners are big right now. Like, really big. And getting bigger. In fact, the planner business is predicted to grow at an annual rate of 8.6%, which means the industry will be worth $157,190 million by 2023!

So, you’re in the right industry, but how do you get started? Well, the first step is to pick a niche. This can be a daunting task if you’re not sure what your niche is. In order to pick the right niche for you, you need to do an inventory of your passions and talents so you can offer something that is both valuable and that brings you and your customers happy.

In my own journey towards becoming a digital planner designer, it took me nearly two years to fully understand the right niche for me based on my passions and zone of genius. I decided to use myself as a reference and started creating and selling the planners that I myself would use. I looked at what didn’t exist yet but that I wished existed and then I created them myself.

If you love stationery and want to design the perfect planner, you can make this into a successful business, believe me. In this blog, I’ll walk you through 3 ways how you can uncover a perfect planner idea that resonates with you and speaks to your audience.

#1  | Through Your passion

Everyone is always talking about finding your passion these days, but that’s because it really does make a huge difference when you’re passionate about your work. Then, work doesn’t really feel like work. It feels fun, fulfilling, joyous. Think of the things you could do all day long and really enjoy, so much so that you even lose track of time. Could this be something that you could use as a theme for a planner?

For example, some people have designed planners around spirituality and self-improvement exercises. Others around sports and others around fashion. Whatever your passion is, you can make that into a personalized planner that speaks to other people with the same interests. This will be your digital planner niche.

Way #2 | Through your Zone of genius

What is the zone of genius? Many people mistake zone of genius with passion, but they’re not the same. Your genius is something that you really thrive at. Something that comes naturally to you that you don’t have to work at in order to be really amazing at it. It’s something that defines you and is even a natural part of your personality.

Channeling your zone of genius to design a digital planner can be a powerful combination. The results could be very successful. There are no limits or rules. Everyone has a million-dollar idea in them. What’s yours?

Way #3 | Through Your Audience

Yes, it’s important to go within and find your passions and zone of genius but remember that you also want to sell this to people. Therefore, it’s a good idea to do as much research as you can into what your audience actually wants and needs.

Ask what features, pages, layout, designs, themes, and inspirations they absolutely crave. You may be surprised and find hidden inspiration in their answers. Spend some time searching through Facebook Groups and pay special attention to the concerns people are bringing up. Keep a list and start looking for patterns or repeated ideas.

If you’ve been wanting to open an awesome digital stationery shop that nobody will ever forget, resonate with your ideal customers, and share your creativity with no limit. Don’t put it off anymore. This is a booming business and you need to be part of it.
