How I Created a Custom Planner Design for Jessica’s Journals Stationery Shop

In 2025, I partnered with Jessica and Angelina of Jessica’s Journals to design their branding and create a custom planner – The Ultimate Planner. This 355-page physical planner was built to support every aspect of real life from productivity and goal-setting to budgeting and meal planning.

This recap breaks down how thoughtful stationery design and strategy helped them break the cycle of constantly launching products in a way that felt overwhelming.

Every Dream Physical Planner Starts with Strategy

Before jumping into layouts or visuals, the first step was strategy. Successful custom day planner design starts long before opening a design program.

I created a creative direction presentation grounded in market research and long-term brand clarity.

From there, we developed:

  • A core color palette with complementary collection colors

  • Fonts chosen for both readability and personality

  • Supporting logo marks and custom illustrations

  • Patterns and details designed specifically for print

I shared sketches, talked through decisions, and documented everything so the sisters always had a clear understanding of what was happening behind the scenes and how it would help their business.

Planner Layout Design for Jessica’s Journals

With a clear direction in place, we moved into designing The Ultimate Planner itself. This personalized planner was created as a fully physical product, offered in two color variations pulled directly from the core palette.

Each section was intentionally structured using proven planner layout ideas, and after revisions, the files were ready to be sent to the printer.

What was Jessica and Angelina’s reaction?

“It’s been a pleasure working with you… We would absolutely love to take up your VIP discount on another project with you.”

What Came Next

While I can’t share all the details right now, more projects are in the works with Jessica’s Journals. You can find out more information and how to stay up to date on the project by reading the full case study here

What I can tell you is that each of these items is grounded in the branding we created, principles instead of trends, and confidence that will allow the sisters to keep selling.

When we finished their project, the sisters had this to say:

“Thank you so much, everything has been perfect and we have enjoyed working with you! We will absolutely reach out again in the future for any new projects we wish to create. Thank you for all of your beautiful work.”
